Dear East Quogue School Community,

Due to the public health crisis caused by the Covid-19 outbreak, Governor Cuomo has closed schools in New York State for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year. This official news I am sure has had a profound impact upon all of you. I am truly heartbroken and saddened by all of the losses we are experiencing.

As we have done throughout this crisis, we will continue to rely on one another to get through challenging and difficult moments. Today is one of those.

The Board of Education, faculty, staff, Mrs. Freeborn and I reaffirm our commitment to your children and to you during this unprecedented time. The District will continue to utilize our distance learning platform for the remainder of the school year.

To our students, know you are foremost in our thoughts. Your contributions to this school year are meaningful and valued. We are so very proud of you and miss you terribly. While it is very difficult and saddening to be apart, I ask each of you to work to the best of your ability every day. As I told our sixth graders earlier today, while it’s hurts not be together, we will work to leave our legacy as we have some very important “unfinished business”.

We will continue to share information with you about our approach to upcoming events and our cherished and beloved school traditions.

I ask you all to find some comfort and rest this weekend. We will come out on the other side of this pandemic stronger than ever. Thank you for your continued support of our program and beautiful school.

I look forward to speaking with you soon.

With admiration,

Mr. Long
