During a series of experiments, fourth-grade students at East Quogue Elementary School observed the multiple ways energy affects our everyday lives.

In the science lab students conducted experiments identifying the different forms of energy around us, including light, heat and sound. Students learned that when we speak energy is released as sound waves that can be seen in the vibration of a balloon. Also, students explored how thermal energy stored in the body leads to the color changes of a mood ring. Continuing the study of energy, students identified that the potential energy found within a toy’s spring transforms into kinetic energy when wound up.

As a result of the science discoveries, the student-scientists are eager to further explore the power of light, sound and heat energy.
