The East Quogue Union Free School District is proud to announce the appointment of Kelly Freeborn as the new CSE chair and assistant principal at the East Quogue Elementary School. The position, which is new to the district, supports the district’s goal of increasing daily access to an administrator during school hours and supporting teachers in the development of new curricula.

Ms. Freeborn joins the district after serving as the principal at Irving Primary School in Highland Park, New Jersey, since 2014, where she demonstrated an expertise in curriculum and assessment while also working closely with the special education department to service the diverse needs of all special education students. Ms. Freeborn possesses an abundance of experience educating preschool special education students and worked closely with a child study team to place and support these students during her time at Irving Primary School. In addition, she worked tirelessly to create and implement programming that created an enriching educational experience for all special education students while promoting a nonrestrictive environment focused on whole child education. In further efforts to provide support to students, Ms. Freeborn also created a calming room to benefit special education students in need of social and emotional support.

During her time at Irving Primary School she was an active member of the District Evaluation Advisory, District Safety and Security and District Strategic Planning committees. She was also integral in facilitating numerous meetings to articulate and discuss the needs of special education students with the child study team, special education parents and special education teachers. Prior to her time as principal at Irving Primary School, Ms. Freeborn taught first-grade at Ironia Elementary School in Randolph, New Jersey, for 12 years.

With more than 15 years of experience, Ms. Freeborn has considerable expertise in curriculum and assessment, including Lucy Calkins Reading and Writing Units and Fundations. As part of a recent CSE Chairperson training session developed by the NYS State Education Department, Ms. Freeborn participated in a combination of lectures and activities aimed to enhance the understanding of the CSE chairperson’s role and to learn to facilitate greater parent participation. She holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Rider University and a master’s degree in educational administration from Montclair State University.

“It is with great excitement that we welcome Ms. Freeborn as the new assistant principal at East Quogue Elementary School,” Superintendent Robert Long said. “I am confident that her leadership skills and dedication to educational excellence will serve as a valuable asset to our district.”
