Students at East Quogue Elementary School participated in the annual Hoops for Heart event on Friday, Feb. 1, raising money for the American Heart Association and its efforts to combat heart disease. Together, each grade participated in various stations where they could demonstrate their dribbling, passing, shooting and other basketball skills. At the end of the day, several teachers competed against each other in a fun and competitive game of knockout, a popular basketball drill game.

The event is a culmination of the students’ physical education basketball unit and coincided with the Go Red for Women initiative. The East Quogue Elementary School faculty and staff donated money and wore red to raise awareness of heart disease and stroke as one of the leading killers of women. Together, students have raised over $6,000 combined for Hoops for Heart and Go Red for Women.
