Instrumental Music

The East Quogue school district also offers its students the opportunity to begin the process of reading and performing music on an instrument, beginning in the fourth grade. Students are presented with a music assembly during the first and/or second week of school in September each school year. These students receive information regarding the instrumental music program and forms that are to be filled out and returned to school in order to register for this special pull-out program.

Students who elect to participate in the instrumental music program are pulled out of their regular classroom to attend their instrumental instructional lesson for 30 minutes each week. Progress Reports (report cards) are distributed separately but simultaneously following the district’s student report card. (For more information about this please click onto the E-board for Ms. Russo, under “Music Department”)

Once enrolled in the weekly lessons, instrumental music students are required to attend a group ensemble rehearsal such as band, every week before school from 8:00am- 8:50am with Ms. Russo. (The selected day of the week for rehearsal is dependent upon the type of band that will be rehearsing.)

Band

East Quogue offers five different bands that students can perform with: Beginning Band, Advanced Band, Marching Band, Jazz Band, Drama Club Pit Band, and Graduation Band. Depending on the time of the year and the type of band your child will perform in, these bands will assemble for rehearsals once each week for 45 minutes in addition to each student’s instructional lesson day and time. Concert performances include: December (Advanced Band), Spring (Beginning Band and Advanced Band), Jazz in June (Jazz Band), and Sixth Grade Graduation Ceremony (Graduation Band).

Jazz Band rehearses on Wednesdays from 2:30pm – 5:30pm with Ms. Russo, and is available to those students who wish to audition into this after-school group, who have played their instrument for at least one full school year, and are in their 5th or 6th grade year.
