Report Card Information

Report Cards at East Quogue School

At East Quogue School, we utilize two distinct types of report cards to effectively communicate each student's individual growth and achievements. For grades K-4, we implement a standards-based report card, while grades 5 and 6 use a more traditional format. Both were thoughtfully designed through collaboration between teachers and administrators to best serve our students and families.

We view the report card as a vital tool for enhancing meaningful communication between educators and families. It provides a comprehensive picture of each child's progress, development, and performance, fostering a deeper understanding of their educational journey.

In grades K-4, the standards-based report card focuses on each student's unique growth, helping families understand specific skills and competencies. This format, paired with ongoing parent-teacher communication, offers valuable insights to support student learning at home and in school.

For our 5th and 6th graders, the traditional report card is designed to prepare students for the expectations of middle school. By introducing a familiar format used in higher grades, it eases the transition and sets a foundation for future academic success. Traditional report cards include overall subject grades, which encourage students to take ownership of their learning by showing how their effort, participation, and performance contribute to their overall achievement. This format also provides families with a broader view of their child's strengths and areas for improvement across subjects. Additionally, the traditional grading system emphasizes the importance of cumulative assessments, homework, and class participation, helping students develop essential study habits and time-management skills that will benefit them throughout their educational journey.

Together, these reporting methods reinforce our commitment to partnering with families in supporting every student's success.
