EQ PodcastPodcasts

East Quogue School District is embarking on an extensive educational project that will integrate podcasts created in the district into the
fabric of the educational process.

There are 3 types of podcasts:

  • Audio Podcasts that only contain sound
  • Enhanced Podcasts that contain audio with still images coordinated to support the audio content
  • Video Podcasts containing motion video with audio

How can you get the East Quogue Podcasts?

There are several methods as shown below.

Using iTunes:

This is by far the best way to access our podcasts for reasons that are explained below:

  • iTunes works on Windows or Mac computers.
  • The East Quogue Podcasts are available free of charge.
  • You need to subscribe to the East Quogue podcast feed on iTunes (see link below).
  • Once you subscribe, new podcasts created by the East Quogue School District will automatically be added to your subscription the next time that you open iTunes.
  • You can cancel your subscription at any time and re-subscribe in the future
  • IMPORTANT: Using iTunes to play podcasts allows you to see the images for enhanced podcasts while listening.
  • The East Quogue podcasts can be downloaded to an iPod when you sync the iPod to your computer. Students can listen to the podcasts anywhere on their iPods.

To view the podcasts using iTunes, follow these instructions:

1) If you don't already have iTunes on your computer, click here for a free download. If you already have iTunes, skip to the step below

2) Click here to subscribe to the East Quogue Podcasts after downloading Itunes.

Using Internet Feeds:

This is not the recommended method, but it does work and you will hear the podcasts.
However, you will not be able to download podcasts to iPods or view images associated with enhanced podcasts if you use this method.

To hear the East Quogue Podcasts without using iTunes, click on the link below. Note: You need Firefox version 3 or later or Internet Explorer version 7 or later to use this website:

  • Depending on what browser that you use (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, etc.), you will be given several options allowing you to hear the podcasts.
  • If you subscribe to the podcast feed, you can select to have new content automatically uploaded to your feed.
  • For enhanced podcasts, you will not be able to see the images that are coordinated to the coordinated audio.

If you would like to use this method and see the images from enhanced podcasts, you need to go into Quicktime and change the file association for .m4a or MPEG 4 media files.
IMPORTANT: You do not need to do this if you download iTunes as explained above.

Depending on the version of Quicktime that you have on your computer, you should be able to change file associations as follows:

  • Open Quicktime and go to Edit on the upper menu bar and select Preferences and then Quicktime Preferences.
  • Go to File Types and click on the + sign to the left
of MPEG-MPEG System, video and audio files (see screen shot to the right.
  • Be sure MPEG-4 Media is selected.

More Information:
