Speech

Mrs. Loughlin

Mrs. Ivezaj

Speech refers to the production of sounds that make up words. These sounds develop in a sequence. Babies begin with sounds such as "aah" and "ooh" and continue with /m/, /n/, /p/ and so on until all sounds are developed somewhere around age 7.

Language development is the use of words and their meanings. These words are combined with other words to make sentences. Language will continue to develop on into childhood. Speech and language therapy is recommended when a child's language skills interfere with academic progress. A diagnostic evaluation is completed to see if this is the case.

It is important to remember all children develop at different rates for various reasons. Do not be alarmed if your child's development does not fit into a specific time line. If you have any questions or concerns please contact me at the school.
