The fall season brings ripe apples from many of eastern Long Island tree farms. On Sept. 26, kindergarten students in Anne Culhane’s class celebrated Johnny Appleseed Day to honor the American pioneer/farmer who spread apple trees across the country.

The students first learned about this pioneer who was born in 1774 in Massachusetts as John Chapman. They crafted colorful apple hats to celebrate the day and then gathered around the table to collectively make applesauce.

It will surely be a day the kindergarteners will remember among their educational experiences.
