October School Happenings in Fifth Grade
The fifth graders are off to a great start this year! They had a great time at the Fall Frenzy. Thanks to the PTA and special area teachers for organizing the event and providing our students with the opportunity to be active and creative.
In ELA, fifth graders are immersed in genre studies through our class core texts,“Amazing Aliens” and“My Teacher is an Alien.” Students are using what they’ve read to even design their own aliens in writing. In science, students are learning about changes in matter, including the states of matter, physical and chemical changes and mixtures and solutions. Students created, observed, and experimented with Oobleck to experience the states of matter hands on. In math, students wrapped up learning about numerical expressions, the order of operations, and number properties. They are starting a chapter where they will use estimation, models and the standard algorithm to add or subtract numbers with decimals.
